Bob Saget Roast
There may be no other marriage between celebrity roast and subject as perfect as the upcoming Bob Saget Roast. While some only know of Saget from his milquetoast spin as Danny Tanner on the ABC comedy Full House and his years spent as host of America’s Funniest Videos, he has actually performed for several years as a very successful blue comedian.
On August 17th, Comedy Central will air the Bob Saget Roast, a star-studded evening with some of the funniest celebrities honoring their friend, Bob Saget. To go along with the tradition of celebrity roasts, begun by Dean Martin, the Roast Master of this event will be none other than Uncle Jesse, Saget’s costar on Full House and current cast member of ER, John Stamos. With his career spanning television, film, and stage, he’s expected to do a piercing job skewering the honoree.
The roasters of this Comedy Central event will have plenty of material on Saget. From the prevalent jokes about the always-a-happy-ending Full House, to his hosting duties at America’s Funniest Videos watching people fall down endlessly, to his next hosting job goading people to bet against others’ knowledge on 1 vs. 100, to his longtime standup career, there will be plenty.
The comedians chosen to roast Saget are an elite bunch. Norm McDonald, best known for his stint on Saturday Night Live, Gilbert Gottfried, who is possibly more known for his annoying voice, but can still pack away quiet the acerbic comment or two, Artie Lange, known for his work on MadTV and The Howard Stern Show, Jeffrey Ross, known as “The Meanest Man in Comedy,” Greg Giraldo, currently appearing on Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil, Susie Essman, of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Jim Norton, heard on the Opie and Anthony radio show.
With this lineup, those catching the Bob Saget Roast on Comedy Central are sure to get their entertainment’s worth with Saget’s deadpan blue comedy he’s sure to deliver at some point, the star quality of Roast Master John Stamos, and the variety of comedy from the talented comedians roasting Saget. If the senior vice president of specials and talent for Comedy Central has already started off the event going on record as saying she apologizes to Saget ahead of time for what the evening has in store for him, it’s sure to be a spectacular evening.
